How It Works
Our award winning, customizable, one of a kind farm food delivery service gives you all the benefits of owning a farm, without any of the work! Our Farm Pantry is open to the public from Wednesday to Monday morning so you can place your orders and have local, farm fresh food delivered to your door.
What goes into your order is completely up to you, not a pre-arranged or pre-decided CSA share. It is from our farmgate to your dinner plate, just the way you like.
No CSA shares needed! All you have to do is order what you need, pay, and we’ll deliver on the Wednesday following your order. It’s that simple! Order bi-weekly, monthly, or whenever you need, Funny Duck Farms is there.
Think of us as your local 5-day farmer’s market without the lineups! When you order online you don’t need to wear a mask, in fact, you can order from bed whilst in your pyjamas.
You can pay right away (anything we might be short of that week will be credited back to your account), or you will be sent an order confirmation and invoice on Tuesday evening and you can pay then. Orders must be paid for before they are delivered. You do have the option to pay cash when we deliver if you’d like.
Delivery or Pick Up Details
There’s no need to pick up anything! We deliver to most places in Ottawa, as long as there’s a safe place to leave your paper bag of food. (Please leave a cooler or box out for us to place your order into.) We have delivered to garages, office buildings, back yards, and even to car trunks! You can see a map of our Ottawa delivery area here, When the COVID-19 outbreak caused the first lockdown in March 2020, we lowered our minimum delivery amount to $40 (plus a $10 delivery fee) and there are no delivery fees on any orders that are over $70.
If you live close by, you are welcome to pick up at the farmgate. Please keep in mind, even if you are picking up at the farm gate, your order will not be ready to be picked up until Wednesday. For those that wish to pick up at the farm gate you can pick up orders between Wednesday and Saturday. Let us know in your order note the day and time you were hoping to pick up and we’ll get back to you to set up the details.
For those living closer to the farm, we can deliver within the town limits of Smiths Falls, Kemptville, North Gower, and Carleton Place. While they are outside our delivery area, we can occasionally deliver to Brockville or Perth. Delivery to these areas is usually on a Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the farm schedule. If you are outside our local delivery area, drop us a line and we’ll let you know if we can deliver to you!
While we generally do our deliveries weekly, prime busy-time periods may change our schedules to bi-weekly deliveries. Please note that there are no deliveries for a few weeks over Christmas and New Years. In cases of holidays or inclement weather, deliveries might be rescheduled to an alternate day of the week, usually Thursday.
What We Have To Offer
The bounty of our farm and other farms in the Ottawa area are available to be delivered to your door: Pastured meats like beef, veal, pork, lamb, hogget, and mutton; vegetables (dozens of types over the year), aged cheeses, breads, herbs, herbal skin care, honey, maple syrup, and more throughout the year.
We are happy to be able to offer food from our own farm, and also fine foods from Patchwork Garden, Bluegrass Farm, Bushgarden Farmstead, Aman Farms and Ferme Rosee, and Bastard Fruit Company. In the summer months, we will also be able to source chicken from Kemptville Chicks.
Our farm runs year round, so you can receive farm fresh foods no matter the time of year. But, our stock quantities and variety does vary over the course of the year and things go in and out of season. Seasonal eating is dining at its finest: the veggies are at their freshest, meats at their prime, and we all get to respect the environment with every mouthful!
Sustainability and Reciprocity
If you are looking for more ways to minimize your food waste, or waste in general, Funny Duck Farms is the place to go! With online ordering, you can get exactly what you need for your regular meals. You get to decide how much or how little you order so you can avoid waste and reduce your carbon footprint. We also offer lots of plastic-free packaging options for veggies.
We even had a few of our customers turn off extra freezers and fridges, as regular delivery meant they no longer needed the extra space to accommodate sides of beef, pork, lamb, or bulk orders of poultry.
We have the ability to sprout various types of seeds all year long which we feed out to the livestock. This helps us to keep our carbon footprint even lower; plus, the health and the happiness of our animals will be elevated too!
Using freshly sprouted grass in the fall, winter, and spring means we are less reliant on hay. We can graze our field more efficiently during the growing season, and we are even helping various species at risk of becoming more prolific in our area.
