info
All year round you will see our happy beasts and birds enjoying life outdoors when you come to visit our farm, living on grass in summer and on cut hay in winter.
What you will NOT see is the indoor, windowless factory confinement situations that most of the meat's at our grocery stores are raised in, nor will you see over-crowded livestock living in muck. (It does get very muddy here in the spring & fall though!)
Funny Duck Farms is your way to opt out of that animal intensive, failing food system.
Our certified organic pastured meats & eggs deliver a taste & quality that is exceptional. Why? Because when you allow a chicken to live like a real chicken, it makes for a GREAT tasting chicken! Same goes for our pastured eggs, pastured veal, and pastured pork.

Our broilers are raised outdoors on pasture, fresh air and plenty of sunlight! They receive a local Certified Organic grain feed to supplement all the fresh grass and bugs they eat. They live in movable, floor-less shelters that allow the birds fresh pasture daily, while protecting them from predators and harsh weather. These birds will be flavourful, low in cholesterol, and high in Omega-3’s. They are fabulous roasted, BBQ’d or broiled and make great soup stock. Ask us about our organic poultry rubs! Our broilers are only raised during the summer months. Chicken is sold out for the 2010 & 2011 season. We can take your name on our waiting list if you'd like.

Ottawa's ONLY Certified Organic Pasture Raised Heritage Pork
is available now!
Heritage Tamworth & Berkshire Pork:
A few years ago, we acquired a pure bred Berkshire boar named Bob. With Bob's arrival came Marley. She has the white stockings of a Berkshire, the red coat of a Tamworth and the floppy ears of an English Black. She is three heritage pigs rolled into one! Feel free to insert some kind of 'Pigs-in-a-blanket' joke here.
Marley's offspring were born here on our farm, which means we can certify ALL our pork this now, and forever more! (Go to our Farm Photo's page to see pictures
of her adorable piglets!)
If you are dissatisfied with what the grocery store is calling "the other white meat" our dark, flavourful pork will bring you culinary bliss! In the summer our pigs will have a few acres of Certified Organic land to roam, root and rummage. They will root up large areas of soil, and leave us beautiful land that has been weeded, stone picked, tilled, fertilized and ready to become new pasture. Their diet consists of grass, crab apples, cull-vegetables, roots and grubs with a side of local Certified Organic SOY-FREE grain. During the summer, the pigs winter area will be replanted with root vegetables and other crops so the breeding pigs and laying hens have something to munch on when they return to the winter area in the late fall. Now that we have our own Certified Organic Jersey cow, our pigs will also receive skim milk & whey!
Berkshires are known for their excellent textured, savoury, well marbled pork, and quality back fat. It is the fat that allows you to create that perfect-crispy-on-the-outside-tender-on-the-inside roast in your very own kitchen. Berkshire pork is what you will find on the plates of the Royal Family of Windsor Castle. Tamworth's are well known as bacon pigs, and for their superb meat. Help keep these rare breeds alive by adding them to your grocery list today!
Spring or fall hogs available by the side, or whole: $4.25/lb hanging weight, plus butcher fees.
Individual pork cuts, and "Pork Packages" will also be available for 2012. Please contact us for pricing information.
Our Shaver Red hens free-range on over 10 acres of Certified Organic land that has both pasture and wooded areas. Even in the winter, the hens love to spend their days outside! Forage is supplemented with a local Certified Organic SOY-FREE grain feed. Our pastures are now rotated by means of a portable “egg-mobile” in the summer months, and winter housing consists of shelter with a large outdoor area that exceeds Canadian Organic Standards. This year, when the hens are out pasturing, we will plant them a garden in their winter area that they can return to in the late fall. Pastured eggs are naturally rich in folic acid, beta-carotene, and vitamin E. They have sublime, deep coloured yolks during the summer months when there is ample vegetation available to the hens, and in the winters their firm-easily-whipped-into-meringue-whites are superb. Although, we have noticed that the excellent local organic hay has helped keep those yolks pretty nice this winter! The Shaver Red Chicken (a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Plymouth Rock) was bred right here in Ontario many years ago.

In season, we offer fresh from the garden or greenhouse: tomato, eggplant, melon, cucumbers, potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, lettuce, spinach, beans and peas, garlic and herbs. Shiitake mushrooms are in very limited supply in the spring and fall only. We have a number of dried herbs available as well. For the summer of 2012 we may be able to harvest the first fruits from our newly planted Permaculture Orchard! Please contact us for more details.
In 2010, we had a purebred Jersey cow join our farm family. "Summer" came from a certified organic farm just down the road and is providing us with the most creamy milk we've ever seen!
Shortly after Summers arrival, we added Winnie to our herd. Winnie is a purebred Dexter. This is a rare breed of cow that can provide both meat and milk. We use the milk on farm to feed our family, provide cream, and the skim milk and whey from cheese making goes to our heritage hogs.
The cows also help to keep our pasture areas well mowed and fertilized. Having dairy cows on the farm adds to our diversity and self sustainability. We didn;t have to mow the lawn once in 2011!
And for the record, when we say organic, WE MEAN IT!!! We do not need, or use health harming chemicals of any kind on our gardens or for our livestock... No hormones, No antibiotics, No pesticides, No herbicides, No unwashed conventionally grown grocery store produce,
No GMO feeds...But don't just take our word for it, come see for yourself.
